Dejan Lovren is making headlines again, but he understands Liverpool better than his critics

Image
There's this strange phenomenon within the Liverpool universe whereby certain players attract a great deal of online stick for making bold but entirely reasonable statements in interviews about their desire for winning trophies, as though doing so will somehow jinx the team's performance on the pitch. Adam Lallana has often been criticised for 'talking too much' in the past, and took plenty of flack for describing what he called Liverpool's 'addiction' to silverware ahead of the Club World Cup final against Flamengo in December, as though that were somehow an outrageous sentiment for a team pursuing their third trophy in seven months at the time. Perhaps the main protagonist in such instances, though, is Dejan Lovren , with the Croatian's most recent claims sparking a deluge of "Oh no, not again, please stop talking Dejan" type responses in the last few days. Speaking to  Sky Sports , he said: "I want that we are remem...

Shrewsbury Town v Liverpool: Team news

Image
Liverpool will field a side containing 'fresh legs' for Sunday's FA Cup trip to Shrewsbury Town as Adrian, Dejan Lovren and Naby Keita could all feature. Adrian  is set to resume his duties as the Reds' starting goalkeeper in the competition for the fourth-round tie at New Meadow.   Jürgen Klopp expected to have  Keita  involved in the squad's preparations for the fixture, while  Lovren  has been back in full training for a week after his muscular injury sustained away at Salzburg last month. However, the encounter is likely to come too soon for  James Milner  (muscle) and   Xherdan   Shaqiri  (calf) as they continue with their recovery.  Speaking on Friday afternoon, Klopp also had no update on  Sadio Mane 's hamstring issue that forced him off during the first half of the win at Wolverhampton Wanderers.  Takumi Minamino  made his Premier League debut in that clash as...

Dejan Lovren injury update

Image
Jürgen Klopp is optimistic the injury that required Dejan Lovren to be substituted for the second game in succession, in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Salzburg, is not serious. The Liverpool defender was forced from the field with a knock and replaced by Joe Gomez after 53 minutes of play at Red Bull Arena. Lovren also had to leave the action during the first half of Saturday’s victory at Bournemouth, with an issue Klopp later revealed to be cramp. And speaking at his post-match press conference following the Champions League victory, the manager explained why he believed it was a similar issue. Klopp said: “We hope that it’s exactly the same as last time. He felt something and we made the decision. It’s of course not cool. “He played really well and was very important. We don’t know more in the moment. It felt similar like last time, that’s it. We have to see. Ref:liverpoolfc.com

Ref.Liverpoolfc.com Dejan Lovren’s career since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2014 has included appearances in the finals of both the Champions League and World Cup, plus a European Cup winner’s medal. The Croatia centre-back - whose front-foot, powerful style of defending is combined with an impressive level of ball-playing technique - also played in the 2016 Europa League final, after scoring an unforgettable Kop-end winner in stoppage time of the dramatic last-eight win over Borussia Dortmund. Lovren, who signed a new long-term contract in April 2017, is approaching the 200-game mark for the Reds and has been a key defensive figure since  Jürgen Klopp ’s arrival in October 2015. He played in all-but one of the club’s games during the 2017-18 Champions League campaign, which ended in defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev. The defender then played every minute of Croatia’s tilt at the 2018 World Cup which saw them  reach the final , where they lost out to...
