Match report: Salah, Fabinho and Mane strike in Elland Road win

Image
Liverpool made a winning return to Premier League action with a 3-0 victory at Leeds United on Sunday that was marred by a serious injury to Harvey Elliott. Mohamed Salah gave the Reds a deserved lead during the opening half with a typically unerring finish from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s assist – his 100th career goal in the division. Jürgen Klopp’s side fashioned numerous chances to net again and took one early in the second period as Fabinho prodded over the line when the ball ran his way from a corner. But the day and the result – which was increased by a stoppage-time Sadio Mane goal – was soured by the sight of Elliott being stretchered off on the hour after receiving treatment for a tackle by Pascal Struijk that saw the Leeds man sent off.\ Klopp made two changes to his starting line-up as Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota came in to replace Jordan Henderson, who was named on the bench, and the injured Roberto Firmino. First half A raucous atmosphere greeted the sides ...

Fabinho says why Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino do differently to stay ahead

Image
Liverpool star Fabinho has revealed Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are in the gym "an hour early" every day to maintain their relentless and world-class level. The midfield general also explained that captain Jordan Henderson and veteran James Milner are the two players responsible for motivating the squad. The attacking triumvirate of  Salah ,  Mane  and  Firmino   is arguably the best in world football right now, while Henderson's leadership qualities and Milner's all-round professionalism have long been admired. “  Henderson  and  Milner  know how to transmit it (motivation). The team is receptive because it’s very professional. I know that professionalism presupposes this,” Fabinho told El País  via the Daily Star . “But for the team it’s incredible that their three stars, Mané, Salah and Firmino, are inexhaustible. They are an hour early in the gym ev...

LICENSE TO KYL Fabinho believes Liverpool signing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain would cause a ‘headache’ for Jurgen Klopp

Image
Source.talksport.com Kylian Mbappe signing for Liverpool would provide a ‘headache’ for Jurgen Klopp, according to Fabinho. The Frenchman  has been linked with a move to Anfield and his former Monaco teammate has insisted he would improve any side in the world. 2 Kylian Mbappe is a huge fan of the way Liverpool play Mbappe has netted a staggering 81 goals in 110 appearances for the French champions since joining from Monaco in 2018, and despite admitting the World Cup winner is one of the best players in the world, Fabinho believes his arrival would cause a problem for Klopp. “At this moment it would be a headache for Liverpool if we had him here because our attacking trio is very good,” the Brazilian told  Sport Bible. “But I know Mbappe’s quality, he’s already one of the best players in the world, so he would obviously improve any team. ‘Right now he plays for Paris Saint-Germain and we have to respect that.” Fabinho , like Mbappe, also left Monaco...

Winning the Club World Cup is important for Liverpool, but not how you might think

Image
The chance to call themselves 'world champions' matters more to Liverpool the brand than it does to the team itsel Liverpool defeated Monterrey 2-1 in Doha i n the Semifinal of the 16th FIFA Club World Cup. If you missed the match, that sentence perhaps may be the only takeaway needed from the 90 minutes: Liverpool won and now play Flamengo Saturday in the final. The result will go down in the history books and it will remain there, but the supporter’s memories of the game will fade at a rapid pace. This 2-1 win will soon be forgotten because it was an empty win in a competition that feels manufactured. The Club World Cup wasn’t even the biggest match to take place on a Wednesday night that featured Barcelona hosting Real Madrid. Highlights of Mohamed Salah ’s pass for Naby Keïta’s opening goal and Roberto Firmino’s deft touch for the winner will live forever on the internet, but most Liverpool fans will only have vague recollections of them. Liverpool 2-1 Monterrey: Jürgen Klopp's reaction

Image
Jürgen Klopp felt his Liverpool side did 'exceptionally well' by booking a place in the FIFA Club World Cup final with a 2-1 victory over Monterrey in Qatar on Wednesday. The Reds set up a meeting with Brazilian outfit Flamengo in Saturday's showpiece after Roberto Firmino's late intervention at the Khalifa International Stadium. The No.9 was introduced to the last-four tie in the 85th minute and converted Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross in injury time to secure the victory in Doha. Naby Keita had given Klopp's side the lead early in the first half before parity was restored two minutes later through Rogelio Funes Mori's equaliser. Read on for a summary of Klopp's post-match press conference... On a hard-fought win... I don’t think it was possible to be a different way. The hard way we saw now with a couple of games here in this tournament and obviously each team is here to represent the country, the continent, whatever, and ...

Liverpool's jack of all trades is now more important than ever after Salzburg triumph

Image
Ref:liverpoolfc.com James Milner only played the final 15 minutes against Salzburg, but his role on and off the pitch will be key to Liverpool's pursuit of domestic and European glory for the rest of the campaign. James Milner’s willingness to do whatever is needed to help Liverpool succeed is a testament to his importance to Jürgen Klopp’s side as they fight for silverware in five competitions. Perhaps against expectations against such a strong attacking side, Liverpool won their first clean sheet away from home in Europe this season to Red Bull Salzburg, confirming their progression from the group. All of Liverpool’s defensive players put in strong performances, including Joe Gomez, who came in for an injured Dejan Lovren early in the second half. Following a hint of an injury against Bournemouth at the weekend (which turned out to be cramp), Lovren went off again against Salzburg, with Klopp describing it as a similar issue. With Lovren now potentially out, ...

How will Jürgen Klopp plug the Fabinho-shaped hole in Liverpool's midfield?

Image
Ref:liverpool.com The Brazilian limped off with an ankle injury in the 1-1 draw against Napoli at Anfield, so how will Liverpool cope in his absence? Henderson and Wijum nald  could both play as the No.6 in Fabinho 's place, or form a midfield double-pivot alongside each other.  (Image: Photo by John Powell/Liverpool FC via Getty Images) Of all the players in the Liverpool squad to be facing a spell on the sidelines through injury right now, Fabinho is one of the most irreplaceable in terms of what he brings to the team in that No.6 role. Both in terms of his ability to break up play and intercept opposition attacks, and also his vision, composure and technique on the ball, the Brazilian has – along with Sadio Mané – arguably been Liverpool's most instrumental figure so far this season.

As he limped off in the first half of the Champions League draw with SSC Napoli this week, there was an unspoken concern among supporters that the Reds were losing much more than a midfielder. Those initial fears have been confirmed, with the club confirming the Brazilian has sustained ankle ligament damage.
