Gomez, Milner, Henderson and Shaqiri Ingury Updates

Image
Joe Gomez and James Milner are fit for Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea on Tuesday. Defender Gomez missed the weekend game against Watford due to a minor fitness issue, while a slight muscle strain precluded vice-captain Milner from playing in that match and last Monday’s victory over West Ham United. However, both are available for the FA Cup fifth-round tie at Stamford Bridge, with Jürgen Klopp also reporting no fresh injury concerns ahead of the visit to the capital. “No new ones [injuries], I think. Joe and Millie are back. The others aren’t,” the boss told the media on Monday. Jordan Henderson (hamstring) and Xherdan Shaqiri (calf) remain sidelined. Source:liverpoolfc.com

Jürgen Klopp reported good progress is being made in the recoveries of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri from injuries, but the trio will remain absent from Saturday’s trip to Watford. Henderson sustained a hamstring issue during last week’s Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid and Milner missed Monday’s win over West Ham United due to a slight muscle strain. Shaqiri, meanwhile, has been sidelined since mid-January due to a calf complaint. Speaking during his pre-Watford press conference on Friday morning, Klopp told reporters: “[They are] all coming closer, much closer. “Hendo is running, Millie is running and even more. It was not enough for this game now, but we will see – especially with Millie – what we can do for Tuesday. “I’m not sure about Hendo, and Shaq not yet, but they are all coming closer.” Pre Match Liverpool v Watford: Team new s

Tottenham v Liverpool: Team news

Xherdan Shaqiri has resumed full training ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur, but Liverpool will be without James Milner and Naby Keita against Jose Mourinho’s side. Jürgen Klopp confirmed during his pre-match press conference that muscular injuries mean  Milner  and  Keita  are unavailable for the trip to London, along with  Dejan Lovren  (muscle) and  Fabinho  (ankle), who are set to begin training fully again next week. Shaqiri , however, is in line to be in contention after a three-match absence due to a minor muscle issue, while  Joel Matip  is making positive progress following his lay-off due to a knee injury. “ James and Naby are not available. Both are muscle injuries, different and for different people, so we see how quick they will be,” the boss said on Friday. “We really don’t have to put a timeframe on it because we don’t know it exactly. We will see, we are open and ...

Liverpool 1-0 Flamengo: Jürgen Klopp's reaction

Image
Jürgen Klopp was left beaming with pride after watching his Liverpool side be crowned 2019 FIFA Club World Cup champions in Doha on Saturday. The Reds defeated Brazilian side Flamengo 1-0 in the final at Khalifa International Stadium thanks to Roberto Firmino's strike in the first half of extra-time. That goal ensured Klopp's men became the first side in the club's illustrious history to win the competition. Read on for a summary of the manager's post-match press conference… On how it feels to be world champions... It's great, really great. We are all kind of all exhausted from a really intense game. We had a few moments in the past when I really struggle to find the right words in not my native language for describing my respect for the boys, how they do it. It's incredible, it was an incredible performance in an incredibly difficult game against a good opponent. But we did so many good things it's unbel...

Interview | Xherdan Shaqiri feeling fully fit, happy and ready to go

Refliverpoolfc.com Xherdan Shaqiri feels 100 per cent fit and ready to impact Liverpool’s busiest period of the season. Having been unavailable for much of the campaign due to a calf injury, the Swiss was forced to wait until early December to make his first start in 2019-20. He duly marked the occasion with an impressive 90-minute display that was crowned with a fine goal as Everton were beaten 5-2 at Anfield last week.  Saturday’s meeting with Watford will see the Reds reach the halfway point of a demanding run of 14 fixtures across five separate competitions in the space of just six weeks. And, with his calf issue now behind him, Shaqiri has outlined his desire to build on a Merseyside derby showing described as ‘incredible’ by Jürgen Klopp.  “[I’m] definitely 100 per cent [fit]. Obviously I needed one or two weeks to train but of course I am happy and feeling good so I’m ready,” the No.23 told Liverpoolfc.com at Melwood. “I feel good, I fee...

Shaqiri

Switzerland forward Xherdan Shaqiri bolstered Liverpool's attacking options after arriving from Stoke City in the summer of 2018. He made quite the first impression when, during his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt, he scored a  spectacular bicycle kick against Manchester United  in a pre-season friendly in Michigan. After three brief substitute appearances in competitive matches, Shaqiri made his full Reds debut at home to Southampton in the Premier League on September 22, 2019. The No.23 had a helping hand in two of the goals in the 3-0 victory before being withdrawn at half-time for tactical reasons. He would score his first goal for the club a month later against Cardiff City at Anfield as part of a 4-1 win. A more-than-capable starter and extremely useful option off the bench, Shaqiri's finest moment in a Liverpool shirt to date arrived when Man United visited Anfield for a Premier League encounter in December 2018. With the scoreline locke...
