Klopp reveals phrase Liverpool stars obsessed with after Bournemouth win

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said that his players were delighted with their clean sheet in their 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Having failed to complete a shutout in any of their last seven Premier League outings since a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United, the Reds were in full control on the south coast.

Naby Keita opened his account for the season after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s opener, before Mohamed Salah capped a solid afternoon with his goal in the second half.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Klopp revealed just how important the clean sheet was for his side.

“It was a professional performance, controlled, scoring wonderful goals,” the manager said. “We didn’t want to make it exciting again so we wanted to control Bournemouth.

“The most used word in the dressing room at the moment is clean sheet – finally!”

Klopp added on defender Dejan Lovren, who was replaced by Trent Alexander-Arnold in the first half: “Dejan Lovren was hopefully cramp but apart from that it was a perfect game. All round nearly perfect day.”

Jordan Henderson, Liverpool’s captain, was particularly impressive throughout, including when he played a brilliant ball over the top for Oxlade-Chamberlain to volley home.

Speaking about the midfielder, Klopp said: “In football you have to break lines, that is how it is. With these ball you can break all the lines and it makes it difficult to defend.

“Wonderful second goal and the third was similar to [Xherdan] Shaqiri’s the other week. This was a strong, strong, strong performance. So mature and so clear in all things.”

“We try with all we have. There will be moments especially between the games where we have to switch the machine off and then switch it on again and be there. We have only three days and play Red Bull Salzburg in an all or nothing game.”

Meanwhile, Henderson himself told Sky Sports: “It was a professional performance. We created chances. I thought we played really well today and I think it is very difficult for any team we play when we play well.

“We work every single day, not only the people that play a lot of games. The intensity in training is always high. The lads that have come in have been outstanding.

“We just need to keep it going. We just want to continue put in performance like we have been doing.”

Liverpool return to Champions League action on Tuesday as they look to secure qualification for the last 16 with a positive result away to RB Salzburg.
