Liverpool 4-0 Southampton: Five talking points
Liverpool marched on at the top of the Premier League with a clinical 4-0 win over Southampton on Saturday.
Four second-half goals - Mohamed Salah’s brace following strikes from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jordan Henderson - saw off the Saints at Anfield.
Here are five talking points on the Reds’ latest victory…
Jaw-dropping numbers
“I have never seen it, to be honest.”
That was how Jürgen Klopp began his response to a post-match query on whether he has ever witnessed such incredible consistency from a team before.
And the stats are, quite frankly, mind-blowing:
- Seventy-three points from a possible 75 so far this season.
- One hundred points from the last available 102.
- Forty-two Premier League matches unbeaten (37 wins, five draws).
- Sixteen successive top-flight wins.
- Twenty consecutive home victories in the Premier League.
“We are not perfect, not even close to being perfect,” Klopp stated.
But those numbers are, by any measure, phenomenal.
