Roberto Firmino pattern that can spells danger for Liverpool

Andrew Beasley takes a closer look at the statistics that defined Liverpool's defeat to Watford on Saturday and finds one or two worrying trends
Liverpool slumped to a defeat which was both stunning and unexpected on Saturday evening, when they lost 3-0 at Watford .
While the rarity of unbeaten seasons always suggested the Reds might lose a match at some point in their final 11 league games of 2019/20, few would’ve predicted it would occur in either this fixture or by such a wide margin.
This was only the seventh Premier League game in which Liverpool have conceded three second half goals without reply, and only the fourth of those where they didn’t also go down to 10 or nine men.

Roy Evans’ Reds lost 4-1 at Stamford Bridge in 1998 having been level at the break, Arsenal turned round one of the final matches of Gerard Houllier’s reign to win 4-2 in 2004, and Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool lost 3-2 at Southampton in 2016 having been two up at half time.

Two of the Saints’ goals that day were scored by a certain Sadio Mané, but there was little chance of him getting on the score sheet at Vicarage Road on Saturday. The Senegalese international didn’t have a single attempt a goal.
