CORRECT Why Jurgen Klopp is right to stick up two fingers and keep his Liverpool first-team away from their FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury

In a logistical sense, Liverpool had a dreadful result last weekend.
They’re still in the FA Cup, but must play League One Shrewsbury again after letting a 2-0 lead slip to draw at New Meadow.

Liverpool’s draw at Shrewsbury is inconvenient more than anything

A defeat would have been a humiliation but, in truth, more convenient for the Reds.
Klopp revealed after the tie he will not take charge of Liverpool for the replay at Anfield on February 5.
The Under-23s, managed by Neil Critchley, will represent the club that night.
It’s a decision that has attracted criticism including from ex-Liverpool star Danny Murphy but I believe Klopp is doing the right thing by, essentially, boycotting the Shrewsbury match.

Ask any Liverpool fan what they crave the most. They all want the Premier League.
Many Kopites would do a deal with the Devil for the Premier League. It’s the Anfield obsession.
The Reds are well on their way to achieving that goal but the players need the winter break they’re due to have after they face Southampton on Saturday.
So any last-minute change of plan could disrupt the nice flow they’ve got and well, what a disaster that would be if they let the likes of Manchester City back with a sudden dip in form.

It could also disrupt their Champions League return, another very important competition to Liverpool, so a cheap exit would be criminal. If it were possible to fight on three fronts in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup that would be great but the hectic fixture schedule prevents top teams from doing that these days. Ask Man City. It may be the oldest competition in club world football, but the ‘magic’ of the FA Cup has died a gradual death. Look at the previous winners over the last ten years – Wigan are the only true underdogs to lift the trophy in that time and all the top clubs who usually win it aren’t playing their strongest teams throughout the campaign.
